5PCI 2 — Market & Competitor Insight

Highlights W42
  • China: Qingdao remains the preferred China port, with higher demand than Shanghai.
  • Japan outports: limited carrier coverage creates room to grow share.
  • Korea: wood pellet dominates (Busan, Incheon, Kwangyang); Incheon demand up as other lines cut services.
  • Vladivostok: demand slightly up — food commodities and wooden furniture.
  • Manzanillo: stable, slowly increasing — apparel and wooden equipment.
Strategy
  • Target China volume via forwarders in global tenders for big brands (Nike, Adidas, Uniqlo, etc.).
  • Pursue specific PODs with less competition, especially Japan outports.
  • Prioritise better-yield Korea cargo, especially Kwangyang — we are the only direct carrier.
  • Russia: focus on paint industry and wood products (charcoal declined).
Challenges
  • China shipments down on weaker demand.
  • We still apply SBS on Korea cargo, while most non-Korean liners have waived it.
  • Most carriers temporarily suspended direct Incheon service on tight space — lower lane availability.

New investments boost garment & synthetic leather in KEK Kendal

KEK Kendal secured three new MoUs: Anhui Anli Materials Technology (eco-friendly PU synthetic leather, exports to 80+ countries), Zhejiang Tongli Clothing (OEM/ODM garment plant — fashion, yoga & activewear for global brands) and PT Padimas Surya Makmur (4-star hotel inside the zone).

Implication: future export demand for apparel and PU materials — fits the China/Korea garment tender strategy.

GRIs on East Asia – US trade

CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Yang Ming and ZIM filed GRIs effective 15 Sep and 1 Oct 2026 (filed USD 2,000–3,000 per 40').

GRIs rarely stick in full: effective increases are expected around USD 200–400/FEU after negotiation. Early-September Transpacific spot gained ~USD 300–500 on some USWC lanes.

Asia–Europe remains weak/stable. October GRIs pose a rate-increase risk for Semarang cargo routed via Asian hubs.
